COMMUNITY GARDEN BENEATH THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN

An oasis of connection

Many beautiful moments have happened at the BirdHouse since its inception in 2016.

In 2023, we arrived at the end of a cycle when The BirdHouse leadership decided to take a pause to recalibrate, to personally explore how the passions and resources of the organization might evolve in ways that are sustainable and life-giving for all, and to continue in service of the more beautiful world that our hearts know is possible.

To that end, we have  discontinued the newsletter, and removed the calendar on the website. The last workshop hosted by the nonprofit was completed in July 2023.  Memberships and dues were discontinued in August.  (An archive of our past events is available HERE)

You may hear from us in the future about opportunities to participate in our Land-Based Healing program with Lazaro Arvizu and our Tongva-Gabrieleno allies to support this ongoing work of the BirdHouse.

The Dignity of Man and the BirdHouse recognize that we occupy land originally and still inhabited and cared for by the Tongva, Tataviam, Serrano, Kizh, and Chumash Peoples. We honor and pay respect to their elders and descendants — past, present, and emerging — as they continue their stewardship of these lands and waters.

We acknowledge that settler colonization resulted in land seizure, disease, subjugation, slavery, relocation, broken promises, genocide, and multigenerational trauma. This acknowledgment demonstrates our responsibility and commitment to truth, healing, and reconciliation and to elevating the stories, culture, and community of the original inhabitants of Los Angeles County.

We are grateful to have the opportunity to live and work on these ancestral lands. We are dedicated to growing and sustaining relationships with Native peoples and local tribal governments.
