Kitchen Coop Buildout

"Nature assembles and breaks down, dissolves and renews, using the same material over and over, leaving no landfills and toxic dumps in her wake. In nature, there is no such thing as waste" - Toby Hemenway

In preparation for hosting Pick-n-Kitchen events with our community partners, The Hollywood Orchard, and our own food and medicine making projects, we undertook to build a light-duty kitchen on our main terrace. The Kitchen Coop was build by Nathan Prevost using almost exclusively used materials found within walking distance of the BirdHouse. The featured stain-glass window came from a 1924 bank in Topeka Kansas. Comprised largely of reclaimed ‘waste’ materials sourced from curbsides, construction sites, and the like, The BirdHouse commissioned experienced local builder Nathan Prevost to design and build this one-of-a-kind structure in summer 2018.
